Peer Befriender
Befrienders support a person following their stroke to offer company, empathy and encouragement. This can be either face to face or over the telephone. This role focuses on social isolation and loneliness and can be delivered by a stroke survivor or general befriender.
Group Lead
Help us to run our peer support groups helping people to socialise and connect.
Digital Champion
Assist our members to get online or troubleshoot day to day tech ‘issues’ so everyone is digitally included.
Stroke Mentor
Stroke Mentors offer a particular kind of Befriending support to stroke survivors by placing emphasis and ongoing focus on goal setting in order to help their recovery following a stroke. This short burst support is weekly over 6 weeks and the mentor will have had a stroke themselves.
Group Enabler
Assist our Group Leads at peer support groups, organising activities and tea & coffee, helping with admin and planning seasonal group trips.
Admin
We have lots of admin tasks that need doing, whether weekly, monthly or ad hoc. All help gratefully received.
Hospital Befriender
A befriending role on the stroke wards at Cheltenham General Hospital in the Woodmancote Ward and Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU). Also at The Vale Hospital on the Peak Ward.
These roles are mostly reserved for stroke survivor volunteers.
Driver
Transport a participant to a peer support group and help them regain their independence. A stroke often stops a person being allowed to drive for a few months or altogether.
Promotion
We want to spread the word about stroke in Gloucestershire and get invited to many community events to speak. Join us in spreading the word about ReConnect.
